Liaison and Escort Interpreting

Two-way communication

Although not considered conference interpreting as such, liaison interpreting, or bilateral interpreting, is widely practiced in a large variety of professional settings, including health care (hospitals and clinics), legal (courts of law and police stations), or business (negotiations and professional meetings). It is also used in  asylum reception centres or immigration services, where the interpreter can also take on the role of an interlinguistic or intercultural mediator.
